A note from Pastor Shane about FMBC Disaster Relief Efforts

To My Fort Mitchell Baptist Church Family,

We have seen tremendous devastation over the past few weeks from Hurricane Harvey and now Hurricane Irma is following behind creating a wrecking path of her own.  It is heartbreaking to learn of families who have been driven from their homes and who have learned that all of their material possessions have been destroyed.  Though the wreckage of this storm is many miles from us, here, in Northern Kentucky, its impact is close to many here in our church.  We have members of our church who used to live in Texas and have friends that still reside there, others who have family and friends living in Puerto Rico and still others whose homes in Florida are in line with this latest hurricane.  Last week, we began collecting goods for Matthew 25 Ministries, and I feel that it is necessary that we continue to support this relief effort.  The Apostle Paul wrote, “If one part of the body suffers, every part suffers with it…”  He is obviously making a reference to the church, but I think we would do well to hear his call to empathize with the plight of those in and around our nation who are experiencing tremendous hardship because of physical and financial damage.  Here are a couple ways that we can help:

  1. Donate Goods and Supplies through Matthew 25 Ministries: We will be collecting items in the foyer and will drop them off to Matthew 25 Ministries once a week.  They do an amazing job assisting victims of these hurricanes and all of your donations will be used to assist the victims impacted in these devastated areas.  Please make others aware of the opportunity to assist us with this relief effort.  Also, we are only able to accept goods that are on Matthew 25 Ministry’s Disaster Relief List.

–          Non-Perishable Food – PULL TOP canned vegetables, fruits, etc.; ready to eat dry goods such as nuts, peanut butter, dried fruits, granola and trail mixes, jerky, ready to eat snacks; bottled water; ready to eat meals; etc.

–          Personal Care Products – Antibacterial soap, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, lotion, etc.

–          Cleaning Supplies – Laundry detergents, general cleaner, sponges, mops, bleach (powdered form is preferred), scrub brushes, buckets, rubber gloves, etc.

–          Paper Products – Toilet paper, paper towels, etc.

–          Baby and Infant Supplies – Diapers, wipes, diaper rash ointment, baby wash, baby shampoo, baby lotion, etc.

–          First-Aid Items – Bandages, gauze, pads, first aid tape, antiseptic creams, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, latex gloves, instant cold packs, etc.

  1. Donate Gift Cards through the Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief Effort: We are able to collect gift cards to assist in this relief effort.  Gift cards for national shopping centers (WalMart, KMart, Kroger), hardware stores (Home Depot, Lowes) and chain restaurants (McDonald’s, Burger King, Chick Fil-A) will allow our Southern Baptist Disaster Relief teams to distribute them on the ground through our partners in the Union, Corpus Christi and Galveston Baptist Associations in Texas.  These gift cards will obviously allow our Texas brothers and sisters as well as our disaster relief teams to share the love of Jesus with those who have been suffering in the midst of devastation.  If you choose to purchase gift cards for the relief effort, please purchase them through our Fort Mitchell Baptist Church SCRIPS program.  There will be a box labeled Disaster Relief to drop your gift card donations sitting over by the Connect Center in the foyer.  There will be order forms sitting by the gift card collection box so we can purchase our gift cards through our church’s SCRIPS program.  Turn in all SCRIPS gift card purchases to Helene Paul and ask her if you have any questions.

  1. Seek Opportunities to Serve Ministries that Are Assisting in These Relief Efforts: There are going to be needs extending long after the hurricanes have passed.  We are going to be seeking opportunities to assist in any way that we can.  Please look for opportunities in the bulletin for ways that you are able to assist (Disaster Relief Training Opportunities; Work Day at Matthew 25 Ministries).

Thank you so much for all that you’ve done already, and I pray that God will continue to provide us with the privilege of fulfilling His call to touch lives with His love, transform lives with His Word and do it all for His glory.  In participating in such a needed effort, we are doing exactly what God has designed His Church to do, serving as the hands and feet of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Thank you in advance for making an impact for God’s Kingdom.

Love y’all,

Shane Brewer
